Cathy Olmo's Story About Her Daughter Kelly's Transplant

Photo: Cathy and Kelly Olmo"A perfect stranger, a hero in our eyes, saved my daughter's life"

Organ donation saved my daughter's life. Kelly was only 2 years old and was dying. Her only hope was to receive a life-saving liver transplant.

It has been 16 years since Kelly received her gift of life through a perfect stranger...a hero in our eyes. This family said "yes" to donation when their own child died. The miracle was in their ability to look beyond their own grief and help someone they had never met — that someone was Kelly.

Today, the waiting list for people hoping for a second chance at life grows larger each day and the shortage of organs is a reality. Sadly, people will die waiting for a transplant that never comes. It's important to get the facts about organ and tissue donation, make a decision to donate, sign up to be a donor, and discuss your wishes with your family. You never know whose life you might be saving...it could be another child like Kelly!
